A beautiful home for your favorite plant. This planter has a blue pineapple surrounded by a leaf wreath on a creamy white porcelain background. The scalloped edges of the planter top and attached drip tray are both trimmed in blue. Blue and white ceramics have been captivating homeowners since the first blue and white porcelains were exported from China to the western world 300 years ago. Of course the pineapple has become an enduring symbol of hospitality. Add this charming planter to the windowsill in a sunny room or add a blooming plant and give it as a thoughtful gift.
Exotic and rare in the 18th century, the pineapple was an expensive delicacy for wealthy Williamsburg homes. Served with great flourish at dinner parties and used as a centerpiece in impressive displays, the pineapple became a symbol of welcome and hospitality. Pineapple motifs were therefore frequently used in architecture, ceramics, silver, textiles, and furniture during the height of the rococo period (about 1745 to 1770). Today the pineapple remains a hallmark of warm and gracious entertaining.
