Within the original's ribbon cartouche, "No. 10" was the apothecary's code for the potion in the jar. Apothecary jars stored any number of medicinal concoctions, and the powders, poultices and tinctures treated a range of common ailments. The colonial apothecary's knowledge of healing was held in high regard.
