Pirates and their treasures were the stuff of legend even as they posed serious threats to colonial Virginia's shipping industry. This pirate carries a chest of gold to show his successful plunders. Some scholars believe that buried treasure could still be found along the Virginia shoreline, noting that Captain Kidd supposedly buried gold, silver and jewels all along the East coast during a journey in 1699.

Virginia's coastal geography combined with its rich tobacco stores made it especially vulnerable to raids by pirates and privateers. Blackbeard is by far the most famous pirate associated with Virginia. When he was defeated in battle by order of Governor Alexander Spotswood, his surviving crew members were famously held in the Public Gaol in Williamsburg and later tried at the Revolutionary City's Capitol building on March 19, 1719.

Made in Pennsylvania, each Byers' Choice® figure is lovingly hand-detailed and dressed in period-inspired clothing. A wonderful Colonial Williamsburg memento! (For decorative use only; not meant to be used as a doll or toy.)
As Virginia's colonial capital, Williamsburg was a crucible where people from different backgrounds shaped and were shaped by their encounters with one another. Those encounters helped forge our American values and eventually our very identity. From tavern keepers to artisans, gentry to slaves, politicians to plebeians, colonists in an array of apparel could be seen interacting during the hustle and bustle of town life. These hand-made figures capture the many ordinary and extraordinary activities that filled their days.
