Inspired by the center splat of an 18th-century armchair from Baltimore, these fan-shaped Baltimore Chair earrings feature eight citrine stones encased in sterling silver. A yellow gold plate focal point rests at the top, hanging from a leverback closure. Fan drop is 3/4" H x 3/4"W.
Colonial Williamsburg's DeWitt Wallace Collections and Conservation Building contains a small sampling of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century jewelry. The pieces are valued more for their beauty, or their historical associations, than their monetary worth. Precious and semiprecious stones - diamonds, rubies, emeralds, topaz, and garnets - were as highly prized in the colonial period as they are today, as were gold and silver.
Clean with silver polishing cloth.
