Feather Tree in Olive Wooden Bucket
This humble feather tree planted in a simple olive wooden bucket makes a terrific base for small holiday decorations or a beautiful statement all on its own. When European political refugee Charles Minnigerode moved to Williamsburg in 1842, he became close to Judge Nathaniel Beverley Tucker, a professor of law, and boarded with him on Nicholson Street. At Christmas, Minnigerode entertained the Tucker children by sharing a homeland custom. They cut down a small evergreen, brought it inside, and raised it on a parlor table to decorate. There being no ready-made ornaments, he helped the children create their own.
