American pride and antique design come together in this charming accent pillow featuring a monument with two flags and a perched eagle. Completely hand-crafted, this needlepoint pillow has a wool face and cotton velvet back. The pillow was reproduced from the design on a 19th-century album quilt in the Foundation's "Explore Baltimore Album Quilts" museum exhibit. Some of the most highly-treasured quilts of the 19th century are the distinctive appliqued album quilts made in Baltimore between 1845 and 1855. The third largest city in the U.S. during the 1840s, Baltimore also boasted the largest seaport and had a strong textile industry. Imported.
Abby Aldrich Folk Art Museum guests may explore colorful and creative album quilting traditions of the 18th century. The exhibit "Explore Baltimore Album Quilts" uncovers premium examples in the museum's collection made in and around the nation's largest port city of the period. These colorful, elaborately designed bed coverings are a feast for the eyes.
