This curvy candlestick design of the lamp was reproduced from a pair of circa-1720 English originals that were displayed for decades in Colonial Williamsburg's Benjamin Powell House. Powell was a general contractor who worked on a number of public buildings in Williamsburg between 1764 and 1771, including the Public Gaol, Bruton Parish Church, and the Public Hospital.
