Vaillancourt Santa in Burgundy with Apple Swag Ornament
· Santa in burgundy coat
· Holding green and red apple swag
· Vaillancourt ornament
Designed from antique chocolate molds, this particular collectible Vaillancourt Santa ornament wears a fine burgundy coat and holds a swag full of ripe apples. Glass, 6.5”H.
Though Santa Claus did not become part of New World Christmas traditions until the 19th century, this Santa figurine takes artistic license and cheerfully wears the clothing of an 18th-century gentleman. Each piece begins in an antique chocolate mold from the Vaillancourt collection but is then re-sculpted with a Colonial Williamsburg holiday motif. A new mold, made from the re-sculpted piece, is filled with a plaster-like substance and dried. The resulting "chalkware" is then hand-painted, bringing to life the mold maker's intricate artistry and the festivity of Colonial Williamsburg's holiday season.
