Gently shepherding three sheep, this Vaillancourt Santa honors the 25th anniversary of the introduction of Leicester Longwool sheep into the Colonial Williamsburg Rare Breeds program. Leicester Longwools were first developed in the 18th-century and enjoyed notoriety for some time due to their novel wool. By around 1920, however, the breed had died out in the United States. That began to change in February of 1990, when eight ewes, one ram, and six lambs arrived in Virginia from Australia. What started as a flock of 15 has grown to anywhere between 35 and 50, depending on the time of year. In fact, a set of Leicester Longwool triplets born in March 2015 has recently drawn much attention from fans of Colonial Williamsburg. The three baby lambs were affectionately named Jamie, Yorkie and Willie in an online public vote.

Our Vaillancourt Christmas collectibles each start with an antique chocolate mold and are adapted with unique new details. Collect them all as a fantastic mantel/shelf display to pass down for generations. This Santa figurine with lambs is hand-crafted and meticulously hand-painted in the USA. Signed "Vaillancourt" and dated. 9"H
This figurine captures 19th-century likenesses of Santa Claus, similar to images in Colonial Williamsburg's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum. He holds Leicester Longwool sheep in honor of Colonial Williamsburg's Rare Breeds Program.
