This charming blown glass ornament combines the holiday decorating traditions of the Williamsburg Inn with the 19th-century chalkware folk art made from chocolate molds. This jolly fellow is carrying a sack filled with pomegranates, which are one of the signature holiday fruit decorations at the Inn. The laurel wreath decoration painted on his coat is found throughout the Regency-style décor of the Inn's interior. Commemorate the legacy of 75 years of hospitality with our Vaillancourt Chalkware Santa ornament. 5"H
Though Santa Claus did not become part of New World Christmas traditions until the 19th century, this Santa figurine takes artistic license and cheerfully wears the clothing of an 18th-century gentleman. Each piece begins in an antique chocolate mold from the Vaillancourt collection but is then re-sculpted with a Colonial Williamsburg holiday motif. A new mold, made from the re-sculpted piece, is filled with a plaster-like substance and dried. The resulting "chalkware" is then hand-painted, bringing to life the mold maker's intricate artistry and the festivity of Colonial Williamsburg's holiday season.
