This charming collectible combines the holiday decorating traditions of the Williamsburg Inn, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2012, with the 19th-century chalkware folk art made from chocolate molds. This jolly fellow is carrying a golden colored bottle brush tree to represent the Regency Tree in the Inn's lobby. He is also carrying a sack filled with pomegranates, which are one of the signature holiday fruit decorations at the Inn. The laurel wreath decoration painted on his coat is found throughout the Regency-style décor of the Inn's interior. Commemorate the legacy of 75 years of hospitality with our Vaillancourt Chalkware Santa!

Designed exclusively for Colonial Williamsburg, hand-crafted and meticulously hand-painted in the USA. Signed "Vaillancourt" and dated. 10 1/2"H
Though Santa Claus did not become part of New World Christmas traditions until the 19th century, this Santa figurine takes artistic license and cheerfully wears the clothing of an 18th-century gentleman. Each piece begins in an antique chocolate mold from the Vaillancourt collection but is then re-sculpted with a Colonial Williamsburg holiday motif. A new mold, made from the re-sculpted piece, is filled with a plaster-like substance and dried. The resulting "chalkware" is then hand-painted, bringing to life the mold maker's intricate artistry and the festivity of Colonial Williamsburg's holiday season.
