Magnolia trees were thriving in Virginia and the eastern United States before the first colonist arrived. Explorers were astonished by their first glimpse of this enormous, unusual tree with its fragrant giant blossoms. Magnolias continue to make a grand presence throughout Colonial Williamsburg's Historic Area. The west elevation of the Lightfoot House is ornamented by a beautifully espaliered southern magnolia the finest example of this unique pruning technique in Williamsburg.

I originally purchased this tote as a gift when we visited Williamsburg. When I saw it again online I purchased quite a few to put my Christmas gifts in instead of wrapping paper. Not only are they beautiful but they make a wonderful gift as well.
