Product DescriptionForward and backward "C"'s are artfully entwined with a central "W" on the handsome cypher seal stamped in pewter on this glassware. Cypher monograms were fashionable in the 18th-century for embellishing everything from wax seals to articles of clothing. In 2004, an archaeological dig at Historic Jamestown unearthed a cellar filled with 300-year old glass wine bottles. Interestingly, one of them bore a glass seal with the initials FN embossed on it, leading to speculation that it might have belonged to Francis Nicholson, the Virginia governor who moved the capital to Williamsburg in 1699. Only a high-ranking official would have ordered a wine bottle from England with his personal seal stamped on it. Take part in this centuries-old tradition, and raise a toast to historic Colonial Williamsburg when you serve your next cold beer in this unique pilsner glass. Hand wash.
