Inspiration
At the time of its completion in 1722, the Governor's Palace was considered the finest such building in British America. Elegant, imposing, and rigidly symmetrical in its design, the palace served as the residence and official headquarters of seven royal governors and the first two governors of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson.
