This jewelry design is reminiscent of the scroll motif popular in 18th-century decorative arts. The scroll is of classic origin, dating to ancient Greece. Artisans of the 18th century often combined classical and natural elements, rendering the curving scroll shape as gracefully flowing leaves and vines.
