Inspiration

This jewelry design is reminiscent of the scroll motif popular in 18th-century decorative arts. The scroll has classic origins, dating to ancient Greece. 18th-century artisans often combined classical and natural elements, rendering the curving scroll shape as gracefully flowing leaves and vines. The character of scroll designs changed over the years. Scrolls executed in the Baroque style early in the 18th century possessed a heavy, dense, sculptural quality. By mid-century, that boldness was being supplanted by the lighter styles of French Rococo. The designs tended to be more delicate, fluid, and often fanciful.
