Inspiration
Interpreted from eighteenth-century Rhenish fragments uncovered in Williamsburg, these mugs feature an incised cobalt blue design. These German mugs were made for export to England and her colonies where they were used to hold beer and ale.

Great mug
They are no longer selling the salt glazed, and I think a lot of countries have banned the manufacturer of salt glaze as it releases hydrochloric acid into the air. This new mug has a different finish. It is still absolutely wonderful! SUPPORT WILLIAMSBURG!

16 oz Stoneware Tavern Mug
This mug is functional, so for that I give it two stars. But I regret buying it as it didn’t meet my expectations. I purchased it to replace what I thought was the same mug gifted to me during a visit to Williamsburg. This is NOT the authentic salt glazed mug I was anticipating, but a shiny knockoff of the original. I would have returned it if I didn’t have to pay the high shipping cost. This mug was a disappointment.

It's disappointing to see that the mugs are not made in China. We just broke a mug that we purchased more than 30 years ago and were replacing it. We like the grey and previous shape better than this new one.

Not only is it lovely to look at but the pottery holds the heat of coffee/tea really well. Good size and weight.

Great Mug!
I just purchased 4 more of these mugs because I have had one for many years and it is just like new. They are sturdy, work well with any hot beverage and can go in the microwave and dishwasher. I am looking forward to many more years of using these mugs!
