Product Description
This stunning WILLIAMSBURG Bassett Hall Punch Bowl is reproduced from an original Chinese export bowl c. 1760-1775 held in our collections. The porcelain bowl is decorated inside with a stylized rope-and-spearhead border and outside with lushly painted berries and peonies. This bowl is distinctive in its striking use of rich dark underglaze blue, combined with delicate shades of "famille rose", French for a rose-pink palette associated with Chinese porcelain. This reproduction 18th-century bowl makes a grand display on a sideboard or foyer table. Fill it with sparkling punch or rich eggnog to make it the centerpiece of a celebration.

Inspiration
The original antique bowl is on display in the dining room at Bassett Hall. Bassett Hall owes its name to Burwell Bassett, a nephew of Martha Washington who bought the property about 1800 and owned it for nearly 40 years. Bassett served as a congressman, a state senator, and a delegate. The original Chinese export porcelain bowl was part of John D. Rockefeller Jr.'s collection of antique ceramics, which was bequeathed to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
Bassett Hall, a two-story, 18th-century frame house located on 585 acres of gardens and rolling woodlands, is a part of the story of the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg. It was in this house that John D. Rockefeller Jr. and his wife, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, made their home during the early stages of the restoration of the Historic Area, a restoration they themselves financed.
Today, the house looks much as it did in the 1930s and 40s, when the Rockefellers restored and furnished it as a comfortable family home. Bassett Hall reflects both its 18th-century heritage and the neighborly comfort that was part of the Rockefellers' 20th-century life in Williamsburg.
