Product Description
Add the finishing touch to your 18th-century costume with these Adult Clocked Natural Silk Stockings! These thigh-high silk stockings are made to fit most adults and are delicate yet durable. A woven "clocked" heel adds authenticity and style. Made from 70% silk and 30% nylon. Imported.
How to Wear: Early stockings lacked elastic and were worn with garters to hold them up. A ribbon tied above the knee over the stocking will do the trick if you do not have garters.
Product Care: Turn stockings inside out. Hand wash or machine wash cold on a delicate cycle. Do not bleach. Line-dry to protect the texture.
Historical Notes: "Lace clocks" resulted from various attempts by hosiers in the 1760s to create an openwork fabric, which led to lace clocks and, later, to machine-made lace. Lace had for centuries been made only by hand. A form of lace was produced on a stocking frame around 1769. Clocked stockings were fashionable into the 1920s when they still appeared in ladies' fashion plates.

Adult clocked natural clocked stockings
They are well made and very soft. The added man made fibers help to keep their shape. I wore them yesterday as a liaison to the local DAR meeting wearing my colonial militia outfit. Very nice stitching.
