Inspiration
The United States’ fourth President and Nation Builder, James Madison, is the namesake of the Madison Carriage, one of several horse-drawn carriages guests to Williamsburg can hire to tour the Historic Area. While he did not own property in Williamsburg, Madison resided there several times during his lifetime, most notably in 1776 as a delegate to the Fifth Virginia Convention. Double E. Carriage, located in Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, manufactured the Madison Carriage. Hues documented to the 18th century inspired the carriage’s vibrant blue color.
