Inspiration
Our faux floral collections represent plants that were either grown in the gardens of Colonial Williamsburg or depicted in artwork or in rare books documenting their presence in colonial America. The 18th century was a period of great interest in the natural world, and both scientists and artists were drawn to the study of flora and fauna. Kalanchoe found its way to British gardens from China in the early 19th century. However, the genus Kalanchoe was first described by the French botanist Michel Adanson in 1763. Most species are found in nature in eastern Africa, southeast Asia, and on the island of Madagascar. Today, the succulent plant is a staple at garden centers and is sometimes referred to as a "chandelier flower".
