Inspiration
Our collection of reproduction 18th-century fabrics is inspired by, and adapted from, The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation textile collections. This pattern is adapted from a collection of bed curtains dated 1750-1790. The original cotton fabric features a European block-print floral vine with a red-ground and floral motif. Object # 1937-165,2A. Visit the online collections to see this item.
Summary from the curator:
"This costly curtain is part of a set that once hung in a lavish European house. The set probably included window curtains and hangings for a tall-post bed. Measuring almost fourteen feet in length, each curtain has a different white-ground Indian chintz at its center, bordered by dark-ground European block-printed textiles."
Sustainability and Quality
Colonial Williamsburg Reproduction Fabrics are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. Our fabrics are digitally printed with fiber-reactive dyes, not pigments, to ensure better color fastness over time.
