Inspiration
Each piece begins in an antique chocolate mold from the Vaillancourt collection but is then re-sculpted with new details and holiday motifs. A new mold, made from the re-sculpted piece, is filled with a plaster-like substance and dried. The resulting "chalkware" is then hand-painted, bringing to life the mold maker's intricate artistry and the festivity of Colonial Williamsburg's holiday season. The tradition of Vaillancourt's chalkware figurines reflects the collections of Colonial Williamsburg's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum.
