Inspiration
An original hand-colored engraving of a goldfinch by William Hayes, set against yellow jasmine flowers in its natural surroundings, is the inspiration for the Hayes Botanical Table Linens Collection from the WILLIAMSBURG brand. Hayes published Portraits of Rare and Curious Birds, with their Descriptions, from the Menagerie of Osterly Park in 1794. Hayes was a noted bird illustrator, and the specimens featured in the book were from his own collection. Copies of the engraving can be found in Colonial Williamsburg's archives.
