Inspiration
This Limoges porcelain tabatiere, or tobacco box, is a reproduction of those popular with French society in the middle of the 18th Century. These tabatieres, small enough to be slipped into a man’s pocket or a ladies’ purse, were the most popular collectible of the day.
Originally made in the many small porcelain factories that surrounded Paris in those days, these boxes were designed to hold the snuff then popular with both men and women of fashion. Made in a variety of shapes, they were especially regarded for their smooth outlines, pleasing to the touch. Examples of these tabatieres can be seen in many museums around the world.
Now made in Limoges, France’s historic porcelain center, these modern reproductions are still hand made and decorated by skilled craftsmen and are still being acquired by the knowledgeable collector.
The Authenticity of The Rochard Collection
From the first design sketch to final firing, from hinge mounting to hand painting, every Rochard piece is created entirely in Limoges. Only the finest quality materials are used in the creation of these objects d’art. Part of the charm of these collectibles is the slight variations in color, brush stroke, and mounting that typifies this form of craftsmanship. However, each piece is special in that it is truly unique, which adds to its value.
