Inspiration

An exquisitely hand-embroidered English table cover, dating to about 1650, inspired the quilting pattern for this WILLIAMSBURG coverlet. The table cover, worked in indigo crewel yarns, was used to protect a table displaying family silver, which inspired Richmond Matelassé's floral scroll border. The complementary field features a Gothic fret motif, popular on furniture a century later.
