Inspiration
Cider was a widely consumed drink in the 18th century, as apples were among the first crops cultivated in the New World. Cider mills and orchards were prevalent in New England. Thomas Jefferson grew several varieties of apples, and his wife, Martha, oversaw the harvest and brewing on their plantation.
