Inspiration
Candles were an essential part of everyday life in the 18th century. Bayberry candles were among the most prized candles in colonial America due to their clear, consistent light and pleasant scent. One of the first written accounts of bayberry candles dates back to 1698, which described them as "stinking," rather than "perfume-like incense." A Virginian historian reported in 1705 that making bayberry candles was a very "modern discovery."

Our tradition is to burn the candles on Christmas till done. The aroma is not over powering but fills the room with its pleasant and relaxing atmosphere

not an exact fit
It can be challenging to find 3/8 inch taper candles, so I was really excited to find these to match with the small brass candleholder I purchased here. These are beautiful candles, but they seem just slightly larger in diameter than 3/8 inch. They had to be forced into the candleholder, which caused wax on the outside edges to crack slightly and fall off. They are workable and I'll use them, but won't likely purchase more when I run out.

Still great quality. They don't come in the nice box they used to come in with the little card telling you about the candles. However, they are still well made.
