Inspiration
The Betsy Ross flag, featuring thirteen stars arranged in a circle and thirteen alternating red and white stripes, is a beloved symbol in American history. According to a story first publicized by her grandson in 1870, Philadelphia seamstress Betsy Ross was commissioned by George Washington to create the first U.S. flag in 1776, even suggesting the five-pointed star design. While there is no conclusive historical evidence to support this legend, Ross was a known flag maker for the Pennsylvania Navy during the Revolutionary War, and the flag remains a powerful symbol of early American patriotism.
