Inspiration
The Powder Magazine, one of the surviving 18th-century structures in Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area, was constructed in 1715 to store the arms and ammunition dispatched from London for the colony’s defense. Just before the American Revolution, it was the scene of a confrontation between Williamsburg residents and the royal governor when his soldiers absconded with the colony’s gunpowder. 2025 makes the 250th anniversary of the 1775 gunpowder incident, one of the critical events that incited the American Revolution.
