Inspiration
About 1770, William Henry, the Duke of Gloucester, commissioned a dinner service from the Royal Worcester company which reflected his passionate interest in the natural world. The resulting pattern is an impressive manifestation of rococo style, complete with 19 exuberant colors, 22-karat gold gilt feathering, and a brilliant turquoise rim. A platter from the original service, now in the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation's collections, inspired this exquisite reproduction. It took over two years to match the original antique's vibrant colors and hand-painted feel.
