About the Artist
Edward Hicks (1780-1849) was an American Folk Artist as well as a distinguished religious minister of the Society of Friends. He began painting as a means of supplemental income and first major exhibition did not take place until a decade after his death. Many of Hick’s paintings share similarities in both composition and theme. The feelings of calmness, peace and Quaker ideals are characterized in most of his works.
