Inspiration
The pineapple was an exotic, expensive delicacy in 18th-century Virginia. Served only on special occasions, it became the ultimate symbol of hospitality. As such, it also became a popular decorative motif in colonial homes. Lovely pineapple designs were embroidered on textiles, carved on furniture, cast in silver and incorporated into architectural elements.
