Cypher monograms are decorative symbols designed using two intertwining letters, or initials. Cyphers were often to mark possessions by the wealthy and others wishing to display that they could afford the finer things in life. Original 18th-century pieces in our collections, such as silver platters, coffee pots, wax seals, rings, and tobacco boxes, bear monograms and cyphers of their owners.

Compared to a Virginia Metalcrafters trivet I purchased quite a few years ago, this one was noticeably off color and cheaply made. The details of the design were not as sharp and even the weight was different. Also, it arrived scratched so I was unable to use it as a gift as I had intended.
