Product Description
This unique collectible by Vaillancourt Chalkware is a beautiful combination of two works by American artist Edward Hicks, a Quaker minister and painter from Langhorne, Pennsylvania. The main part of Santa’s coat is adorned with a reproduction of Hicks' 1830-1832 version of The Peaceable Kingdom, a theme he painted 62 times. On the back, just below the hood, you'll find a reproduction of his 1829-1830 painting, "A Peaceable Kingdom with Quakers Bearing Banners," which depicts a group of Quakers carrying banners with messages of peace. Originally designed for Early American Life magazine, this 9.5" tall Santa is hand-painted by artisans in Massachusetts. Visit the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg, where The Peaceable Kingdom is on view at the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum.

Inspiration
Each piece of chalkware begins in an antique chocolate mold from the Vaillancourt collection. The piece is then re-sculpted with new details and motifs, filled with a plaster-like substance, and allowed to dry. The resulting "chalkware" is then hand-painted, bringing to life the mold maker's intricate artistry. Vaillancourt's chalkware figurines are inspired by the collections of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum.
