Product Description
Lightly scented with our signature lavender and lemongrass blend, The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg Body Lotion soothes and softens the skin - and brings the memory of your favorite spa experience home. Lavender was one of the favorite perennial herbs among 18th- century gardeners. Its name comes from the Latin root lavare ("to wash"), most likely because it was frequently used in baths to help purify the body and spirit. Our soft and silky moisturizing lotion with a clean fresh scent also makes a great gift.

Inspiration
In his 1633 book The Great Herball, John Gerard described the distilled water of lavender as "virtuous," whether it be "smelt unto or the temples and forehead bathed therewith." Gardeners of the 17th and 18th centuries relied heavily on herbalists such as Gerard, who also noted lavender's usefulness in perfuming linen, apparel, gloves, and leather. Known for its calming scent, lavender was often worn in one's hat to prevent headaches - even among Revolutionary soldiers!
