The pattern on this Bamboo Trellis Oval Porcelain Planter was inspired by the dining room chairs in the Governor's Palace at Colonial Williamsburg. The oval planter is scaled for multiple plants or fresh flowers. Accented with solid brass feet, the planter makes a grand statement on the sideboard or at the foot of the fireplace.

Inspiration
Bamboo Trellis celebrates designs inspired by The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director by Thomas Chippendale. Chinese designs came to England and her colonies with the tea trade. In the 1760s, Virginia's governor ordered "bamboo chairs" for his Williamsburg "palace". Williamsburg cabinetmaker Edmund Dickinson owned a copy of The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, the most fashionable furniture pattern book of the 1750's and 1760's. When he died fighting for the American cause in the Revolution, his Director was worth as much as his "new rifle gun."
