Inspiration
Birdhouses were probably quite popular in 18th-century Williamsburg. Fragments have been unearthed throughout the Historic Area, and a 1746 inventory and 1752 advertisement provide further evidence. Though it's tempting to attribute their use to enthusiasm for bird watching, bird bottles served a more practical purpose: nesting birds made ideal insect control around homes, kitchens, and stables.

Ceramic Bird Bottle
The Carolina Wrens love nesting in this bottle. Their messy nest is contained and well protected from the elements and predators if hung where a snake is unable to access it. Best to face the opening away from prevailing winds.

Love my bird bottles! I first bought one over 20 years ago on a trip to Williamsburg. My wrens and bluebirds love it . I finally decided to get some more after lasy year's backyard baby bird boom. Now I have 3 more hanging... hopefully enough space for all the families :)

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for a bird lover, and it was a hit! The bottle is a good size, it's well made and sturdy, plus it's simple to put up and can be removed easily if it needs to be cleaned out. Absolutely love this bird bottle!
