Inspiration
Our sophisticated matelassé design is based on an antique coverlet from Colonial Williamsburg's textile collections. The original was made in Portugal during the late 17th century and features mythological flora and fauna motifs separated by columned arches. These patterns are characteristic of decorative arts from the late baroque period, roughly concurrent with the reign of England's monarchs William and Mary.

William and Mary White Bedspread
I recently ordered a queen size white William and Mary bedspread to replace my old William and Mary queen bedspread, which is about 10 years old. The qualitly seems fine but the size is very different from the previous one. The measurements of the bedspread match what they are reported to be but my old queen sized bedspread reached the floor on all sides. This one barely covers the same mattress and boxspring. The pattern which hangs down the sides starts on the top of the mattress instead of the side. Disappointed in the change in sizing. Check your measurements to make sure you order the size you actually want.

Wiliam and Mary Coverlet
I recently purchased the queen W&M coverlet and shams in off white, ecru, bone, whatever they call it. This was a replacement for the same bedding I purchased from this vendor about 15 years ago which has finally just worn out. I will keep my new purchase. It's okay, and I probably cannot find anything better. But the quality is not the same. I don't know how to describe it, but it feels "stretchy" in a way that my previous coverlet did not. Also, I do not care for the color. My previous coverlet was an off white -- I am sorry but I cannot recall the exact name/description of the color. But this one is a buttery, creamy, yellowy off white. I don't like it. But again, doubt I could find better because I did not want pure white. I'm hoping repeated washings will mellow the color. Oh well . . . .
